"Yokosuka1953", which Masuhiko Ikada from our company was in charge of editing, will be screened in theaters nationwide from November 5th.
"Yokosuka1953" is a documentary film directed by Tsuyoshi Kigawa and it has been awarded a Grand Prix at Tokyo Documentary Film Festival 2021 and some other awards at national and international film festivals.

This documentary film project started with one facebook message sent to a filmmaker and professor at Wakayama University Tsuyoshi Kigawa, stating that "Do you know Yoko Kiagawa?". Yoko Kigawa was born in Yokosuka to a Japanese lady and an American soldier during chaotic times after World War II. Triggered by this message, the director, Kigawa has learned about the heartbreaking story of a woman who has been tossed about by the waves of history for 66 years. This is a spectacular documentary film that depicts Yoko's journey in search of her long-lost mother through calm visuals.
Please watch "Yokosuka1953" born from a fateful encounter drawn by chance and inevitability at the theaters.

<Masuhiko Ikada's Comment>

Ms Barbara is very charming. I looked through a lot of recording materials and also I was at some shooting sites and I realized that she was very nervous at first but her expression was getting soft since she came to Japan.
When she arrived in Japan, she said "I left Japan as a young child and came back as an old lady." and smiled.
However she went to United States without understanding English and she got abused or discriminated. Even in the difficult situation, the reason she was able to live a decent life without resorting to alcohol or drugs was because she wanted to be who her mother would have wanted her to be.
I'd really like you to see at the theater what happened when Barbara returned to Japan.
